WHAT You’ll be doing
You will work across a wide variety of business and technology decisions spanning multiple Uber projects and locations and as a deeply passionate and driven technology leader, your collaborative approach and healthy sense of curiosity will see you improve our next generation payments systems, scaling it to the next level
You will provide technical leadership in designing, implementing, testing and rolling out the next generation of our payments systems. And on a daily basis will collaborate with others, from talented team members within your group, through smart technologists in other functions like machine learning, AI or data science, to responsible leaders across Uber.
You will always see the big picture and identify strategically important problems, inefficiencies or opportunities for meaningful improvements. Driving alignment on how to tackle these and delivering high leverage solutions on these at the group and organization level. You will up the bar on sustainable engineering by improving best practices, producing best in class of code, documentation, testing and monitoring.
Despite having no direct line management responsibilities you be looked upon to mentor a team of talented engineers while also executing on delivering uniquely challenging projects. Your previous track record in designing scalable systems whilst delivering efficient code will enable you to excel and be collaborative role model and humble teacher.
What You’ll Need:
Our systems ensure accurate and on time payments where partners are paid and users were collected from. So, this really is a unique opportunity for an innovative technology thought leader to have a global impact.
Therefore we are looking for someone with a passion for and proven track record of architecting, building and scaling highly-available, mission-critical systems that support millions of users on a daily basis. We use programming languages like Go, Java, Python and data stores like Cassandra, DynamoDB, Redis so you will require experience with multiple programming languages and data stores.
You will have a true passion for driving continual improvement initiatives on engineering best practices like coding, testing or monitoring. And will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write detailed technical documents is a must as is being truly passionate about helping teams grow by inspiring and mentoring.
You will take pride in your ability to build strong relationships with people in the organization, meaningfully collaborating and building trust. And will be a role model on acting with good judgement and responsibility. Engineers across the organization will look to you on how best to plan and execute on projects.
