IT Chapter Lead Software Development Leeuwaarden
For our Current Accounts department in Leeuwarden. ING Bank NL is looking for a passionate and inspiring IT Team lead (within ING we use the title Chapter Lead), with a solid software development background and hands-on mentality.
As an IT Chapter Lead, you work on programming, testing and deploying high-quality applications, at a bank that is known for its IT innovations. Working according to the newest methods within complex IT projects.
The function of IT Chapterlead has two very important aspects:
- First of all, you will fulfill an important IT role as a software engineer, in a professional DevOps team. 50% of your time you will develop and test one or more applications.
- For the other 50% of your working week, you will be responsible for coaching, stimulating and motivating IT experts, which will consist of 8 till 12 specialists on average.
- You are an inspiring technical lead within your Chapter and/or squads, by stimulating innovation, coaching on the agile way of work, initiate knowledge sharing activities or improvements within the IT area of Current Accounts.
- Or, even better, if you have an impact on the level of Daily Banking or even ING.
What you'll do
- ING Bank’s Daily Banking – Current Accounts department is currently developing scalable, resilient, real-time banking processes which will empower its customer to open, close and modify all ING current accounts for all private individuals in NL and BE.
- We are situated right in the heart of our customers’ activities with the bank.
- The front-end Polymer applications and the Java API’s are the technical backbones for these multichannel apps which are used by customers in both Netherlands and Belgium.
- Current Accounts API’s you will work on are used by millions of customers on a daily basis, whether it is the mobile banking app, our internet banking web app or cross channel employee portals. A great stage to shine for any serious software craftsman.
- In this position for Chapter Lead, you will focus on the squads working on Opening and Closing Accounts.
- ING works in multi-disciplinary teams based on Scrum, Agile and DevOps principles.
- Responsibility for Infra and Security is adapted within the squads, business & IT have joined, making a squad end-to-end responsible for a customer journey or product. This is also called the ING adaptation of the ‘Spotify’ model.

How to succeed
- Proven track record and proficiency in software development (8 + years): backend or front end (and thorough knowledge of the other, you are expected to be able to work on front- and backend).
- Our backend stack sounds like Java, Spring, Maven, Jenkins, Sonar, Cassandra, Oracle. On the front-end side, we are into Lit-HTML, Polymer, AngularJS, Web components, Redux, NPM.
- Experience and thorough understanding of (test) automation, continuous delivery, deployment tools, and pipelines.
- We work with Git, Tomcat, Jenkins, TFS, Ansible, SonarQube, Fortify, Artifactory, Selenium, OpenShift / private cloud environments and migrating to Azure DevOps CD pipeline
We are moving towards pure DevOps profiles, so you are expected to refine, code, test and deploy your own work on our on-premise and cloud environments.
- Great analytical skills and conceptual/architectural understanding, ability to quickly understand new technical concepts that are outside of your comfort zone.
- Strong interest and vision in recent trends in software development and technology in general.
- An itch and self-motivation for solving technical and functional challenges.
- We expect the ability to transfer knowledge back to the ING Bank by holding presentations, workshops, documentation and most important: setting new standards for the ways we do tech.
- Strong social and communication skills. Being a sparring partner for our business colleagues.
- Experience with working in multidisciplinary teams and agile way of working
- Fluent English speaking and writing
