Chapter Lead IT OPS Security in Amsterdam

Introduction

ING is looking for a chapter lead with expertise in people management combined with IT Ops security engineering, to strengthen our DevOps teams responsible for the Global Digital Channels of ING Wholesale Banking Tech.

As a Chapter Lead you have the following objectives:

•    Ensure the individual development of your team members, so that they can successfully fulfill the new roles and the new processes

•    hands-on technical activity as member of one Squad where you provide the automation, tooling, resilience and security necessary for smooth feature delivery by your Squad.

The IT Ops security chapter covers multiple squads with critical assets from WB Digital Channels. Reliability and security are the main priorities for the chapter.

Your work environment

You will work in the dynamic and challenging environment of the IT organization of ING Global Digital Channels. We operate according to a Scrum Agile development process and strongly believe in the BIzDevOps approach to delivering IT solutions. The focus is on high-quality mission-critical software delivered in time using iterative development with regular milestone demos to the business, so that at the end there are no surprises about what we build.

Feature delivery is driven by the priorities determined by the Business and Product Owners, working on a day-to-day basis with the IT organization to ensure the delivery optimal added value.

The main engineering challenges addressed at all times by our DevOps are:

• meeting the appropriate availability, integrity and confidentiality our stakeholders expect
• consider the outcome of prioritization processes and related dependencies
• handle software evolution, isolated or throughout chains of systems
• perform meaningful testing for several relevant goals (e.g. regression, user acceptance, and performance)
• aim at improving time-to-market and added business value

Your job

The chapter lead role contains the following challenges for you:

• As an energetic Chapter Lead with expertise in people management, you are an IT Ops engineer and this will be your role in the squad for 60% of your time. With your fellow squad member, you take care of the IT Operations for the WB Security proxy assets and in the future this can grow to more assets.
• The remaining 40% you spend on building up expertise in your chapter and developing your chapter members. You are enthusiastic about transferring your knowledge to others, and about coaching members of your Chapter and overseeing their personal development.
• You help your chapter develop through coaching, mentoring and constant feedback
• Together with your IT Area Lead, you set targets for each team member
• You are responsible for HR-related activities: For instance 1 to 1 meetings with your team members, performance management.
• You work with the recruitment team to attract, onboard and retain top talent.

Your personal profile 

• Master of Science in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
• You love technology and naturally stay up-to-date on relevant new developments.
• You have a strong customer-centric mindset, helping ING to excel in onboarding customers (responding to their expectations and needs)
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in leading and coaching fellow engineers in a hierarchical role. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a DevOps engineer in similar environments.
• Experience leading chapters or teams developing highly concurrent and reliable distributed systems is a plus
• Multiple years of experience with executing the ITIL processes within an Agile working environment, including risk control and configuration management for high scalability mission-critical applications.
• Experience with the responsibility and execution for the incident, problem and change management for high available systems.
• Sound knowledge on execution and automation of acceptance tests. E.g. load, stress, performance, regression and security testing.
• Experience with automation of the development/deployment pipeline (preferable with Ansible and AzureDevOps).
• Good knowledge of Linux, with the ability to apply it in the context of modern operating systems. Preferable also experience with a container platform (Openshift/ Kubernetes)
• Knowledge of Prometheus, Elastic.
• Knowledge of encryption, hashing mechanisms.
• Basic knowledge of Python and Bash scripting language.
• Knowledge of connectivity (e.g. XFB), firewalls, proxies, and VPNs preferred.
• You have very good analytical and problem solving skills.
• Fluent communication skills in English.
