Site Reliability Engineer in Utrecht

Our Site Reliability Engineers could more properly be called Platform Reliability Engineers, because bol.com offers so much more than a ‘traditional’ webstore. For the tens of thousands of business partners that sell their products there. And for the more than 8 million customers that visit bol.com to buy products and be inspired.  We design, code and support the systems that allow our engineers to scale our platform with the least amount of time and effort. After all, if your customers love a solution, you’d better make sure you can expand it quickly.

As Site Reliability Engineer, you work in the cross-functional team that focuses on the provisioning of services for our Platform Space. This is a functional area that includes our Business Intelligence, Finance, Partner and Customer Services solutions. The team has a knack for data visualization and is continuously improving its frameworks and the incorporation of third party products (particularly for Business Intelligence). All told, we monitor, support and optimize about 400 individual services. For the most part, these are stateless services. This Space is the obvious choice to lead our transition to Google Cloud and your knowledge of BigQuery, Docker and Kubernetes deployment, service containerization and cloud provisioning will be put to good use. Help us get airborne and reach that cloud safely. To maximize the benefits of our cross-functional approach, we also welcome additional knowledge. Golang, Python, Ruby, shell, Puppet, Terraform, middleware and APIs? If you master these tools, we have projects to take up. Either solo or, preferably, with your team.

Who you are

A Site Reliability Engineer with deep knowledge of all layers of the networking stack: what happens under the hood determines what happens above it. You feel at home in large scale production technologies, like load balancing, monitoring, distributed systems and configuration management. You stay on top of developments in your field and apply them to lift yourself and bol.com to the next level, including the Google Cloud. A track record in designing automation projects is an asset. Strong coding skills are as well.

Must Haves

• Experience in a similar position in e-commerce or at tech companies
• Knowledge of Golang, Python, Ruby, shell, Puppet, Terraform, Kubernetes Docker and Google Cloud platform. Experience with all or some? Even better.
• You don’t just talk about the best solutions, you build and support them
• Passion for open source and driven to contribute to the community

Your work environment

Our Site Reliability teams are divided into Spaces (Retail, Shopping, Logistics, and Platform Space). Where other companies speak of ‘platform provisioning’ we subscribe to the ‘if IT moves, automate IT!’ philosophy. We deploy to production with Docker and think open source is always the best choice.
