ING is looking for an IT Dev Engineer within Global Digital Channels domain of Wholesale Banking.

Work description

As a Dev Engineer you work on developing and testing high quality applications, at a bank that is known for its IT innovations. Working according to the newest methods within complex IT projects. At ING we work in a DevOps manner, where the Scrum/Agile methodology and Continuous integration/Continuous Delivery practices are very important. 

GMTT is our Global Monitoring, Tracking & Tracing system for (international) Payments. Especially the GMTT system is an exciting new product, recently launched to Teams all around the world supporting our global Customers, and soon also to Customers themselves; it is an innovative solution to provide full End 2 End insight, integrity and reliability wrt Payments. The impact of what you are responsible for is huge. The field evolves fast and staying up-to-date and exercising technical leadership to help the organization stay at the forefront is of paramount importance. You will focus on:

  • Design and develop high-volume, low-latency applications for mission-critical systems, delivering high-availability and performance.
  • Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle.
  • Write well designed, testable, efficient code.
  • Workload estimations during the planning sessions
  • Advice, appraisal and code review
  • Contribute together with the rest of the team to continuous improvements of the development process
  • Prepare and produce releases of software components.
  • Investigate and give resolutions for defects (in test, acceptance or production environments)
  • Programming new applications and to making changes in existing applications

You will participate in DevOps Teams and software release cycles in collaboration with the Wholesale Banking business and its support functions, all within a DevOps way of working.

Your work environment

You will work in the dynamic and challenging environment of the IT organization of ING Global Digital Channels.

We operate according to a Scrum Agile development process and strongly believe in the DevOps approach to delivering IT solutions. The focus is on high-quality mission-critical software delivered in time using iterative development with regular milestone demos to the business, so that at the end there are no surprises about what we build.

Desired skills & experience

  • Proven track record in this role, preferably in an international environment
  • Good knowledge (or at least keen interest to gain it) of some of the following areas: payments, cash management and financial markets is desirable for this position
  • Strong fundamentals in software design and development
  • Proficient, or at least Competent and experienced in Java 8 development and Scala.
  • Java and Scala are both a must
  • Experience with Rest API’s  (Spring Boot is a plus)
  • Good knowledge of modern application servers such as Tomcat
  • You will be also working with Apache Kafka, Apache Storm, Akka, of which knowledge is a strong nice-to-have, but the willingness and ability to master these new technologies a must-have.
  • You will be working with Logstash and ElasticSearch 5, X-Pack, as well as Kibana 5, of which knowledge is a strong nice-to-have, but the willingness and ability to master these new technologies a must-have.
  • Experience with AngularJS is a plus.
  • Unit testing, Cucumber, ScalaTest
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery using modern OSS tools such as Jenkins, Maven/Gradle, Sonar
  • Basic knowledge of Scrum
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and scripting
  • Able to work under pressure, no 9-5 mentality
  • Great English (and preferably also Dutch) communication skills, verbal as well as written.
