ING is looking to recruit a Data Governance Specialist within the Chief Data Management Office (CDMO) in the COO domain, reporting to the Head of Centre of Expertise - Data Governance  Policies & Control.

Your work environment:

Data is one of the five building blocks of ING’s “Accelerated Think Forward” strategy. The Data Governance Centre of Expertise is a small head office function supporting ING data stakeholders in all countries where we have presence and the ING global support functions. The purpose is to help set up and maintain state of the art data governance at ING enabling best execution of and alignment with ING Bank data strategy and global initiatives.

The Data Governance Specialist is important to support effective and globally consistent data governance. The Data Governance Specialist is a trusted advisor to Data Offices in the various ING business locations and other key data stakeholders.

You will be in working in a dynamic international environment that is increasingly data driven. Applying the agile way of working, a variety of data governance topics to work on and a broad network of internal stakeholders.

Job description:

The Data Governance Centre of Expertise is responsible for activities that support effective data governance at ING. It has a key role in supporting the ING global data management strategy by applying a One Governance approach.

The Data Governance Specialist will work with others within CDMO and with local Chief Data Officers (CDO). He/ she will design, share and assess key data management artefacts. Driving creation and maintenance of policies and processes is just the starting point. Socialisation of the artefacts, providing training to users and performing QA checks and guiding assessments to identify the maturity level and adherence are even more important.

The Data Governance Specialist will co-operate closely with the data capability owners which are part of various squads.

Daily activities include working closely with the team members to:

  • Anticipate and implement changes due to policy and process adjustments;
  • Engage with CDOs and other stakeholders of Data Governance;
  • Coordinate actions and provide guidance, templates and documents in areas where a centralised approach is necessary or useful;
  • Collect and develop good internal and external practices of Data Governance implementation and share them with the domain/ local including Chief Data Officers, Data Governance Officers and Data Owners/ Data Stewards community;
  • Identify opportunities to further improve the way ING Data Management policies and procedures are communicated, embedded and executed.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensuring alignment with the Orange Code Behaviours and the Global Data Management Strategy;
  • Creating awareness of Data Management policies and standards;
  • Maintaining relationships with and providing support to relevant stakeholders including Chief Data Officers, Local Data Governance officers, Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Quality Officers, Data Users, Etc.;
  • Responsible to organise, implement, enforce and maintain policies, procedures, standards and ownership for the effective management and use of bank-wide data in alignment with the CDO Office;
  • Assess deviations from policies and standards and prepare if/ when required, in collaboration with the CDO, the approval process for the deviation;
  • Safeguard alignment of Data Governance artefacts with other ING policies and standards;
  • Provide guidance and advice to local CDOs for local embedding of data governance;
  • Set-up and maintain required (BUZZ) communities to share effective and common practices of applying policies, procedures and standards;
  • Timely identification of developments and changes within Data Management and at ING that require update of policies, procedures and/ or standards;
  • Benchmark ING Data Management policies, processes and standards with those of other comparable financial institutions to help maintain a world class qualitative level of the ING Data Management framework;
  • Provide training for staff on a regular basis, promoting awareness of, and compliance with, the policies and standards.

Who are we looking for?

  • You are pragmatic and problem-solving yet have an eye for governance or regulatory context and boundaries.
  • You have an affinity for data governance and policies/standards and are comfortable working in an international context. You  have outstanding social skills and can communicate effectively. Collaboration and facilitation skills are key in this role. You are transparent and flexible and able to act at operational and executive level.
  • Familiarity with EDM council and DAMA is a preference.

Experience and Knowledge

Required

  • Proven project & program management experience preferably in an international context;
  • Experienced in writing, implementing and/ or assessing policies and standards. This can be in related domains such as internal control, audit or risk management.
  • Advanced understanding and experience in the area of data management and/or IT;
  • Excellent communication skills and English language skills both spoken and in word are required.  

Desired

  • Knowledge of Policy formation;.
  • Knowledge of data management and some affinity with IT.

He/she must be skilled in communicating complex ideas and solutions, at all levels of the organization and must be open to ideas from others
