Junior – Responsible Business & Communications

Within Aegon Asset Management and Aegon Group broadly there is a strong focus on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks and opportunities, and over the last few years Aegon has taken several steps to address these issues, including by establishing a strong Responsible Investment team, building ESG capabilities of portfolio managers and analysts, and launching a Climate Working Group. Your role will be to support these activities and to help us communicate about them internally and externally.

 
As a junior you will become a vital part of the Responsible Business & Public Affairs (RB&PA)  Department and your insight and knowledge will help the team to foster integration of ESG issues into investment processes. In your work you will collaborate with Responsible Business and Communication teams at unit and Group level globally to engage internal and external stakeholders to sustain our message and community outreach. You may be involved in a variety of responsible investment and public affairs activities, including stakeholder management and reporting, engagement with investee companies and market research.

About the department

The department gives advice and support covering all RB&PA related topics within the global Aegon Group. It covers three main areas:

Responsible Business & Public Affairs: ensure stakeholder management, publish the annual Responsible Investment (RI) report, support ex- and internal communication and corporate strategy development. ESG Integration, Engagement, Active Ownership: ensure ESG integration in all investment decisions, engage with investee companies and ensure Aegon responsibilities as an active owner. Product Ideas & Impact Investing: supporting business lines with RI-related and impact investing product ideas.

The department is based in The Hague, but operates globally. In this role you will report to the Global Head of ESG.

Role

You should have a high level of drive and initiative and be strongly result oriented. You will be exposed to most aspects of the team’s work, covering:

• Internal and external communications regarding Responsible Investment activities;
• Implementation support, organising events and marketing activities;
• Engagement with investee companies, voting on shareholder resolutions;
• ESG and RI market research, impact analysis and data management.

Profile

This junior position is open to graduates majoring in Economics, Management, Political Science, Sustainable/International Development, Marketing, Communications or Environmental Sciences. Your profile should include the following characteristics:

• Knowledge of the financial industry;
• Passion for sustainability issues;
• Excellent communication and writing skills in English and Dutch;
• Data analysis skills;
• Good attention to detail;
• Strong people skills;
• Good Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills;
• A strong team player as well as able to work independently;
• Experience with policy and advocacy, communications and campaign execution would be an advantage.
