Your role & work environment

Within our Tribe Fraud & Cybersecurity you will work as a chapter lead Data Science and Rulewriting, a chapter focused on delivering best in class fraud detection rules and models. In this role you will contribute to ING being the safest bank and a leading player in the area of fraud and cybersecurity.  The environment and challenges we face in the field of fraud and cybersecurity change on a daily basis, with uur goal being to always be one step ahead.

The models and rules we build here are not purely an academic exercises. Instead they are modified and brought to production on a daily basis in order to perform real-time fraud detection in all channels of ING, including cards, online banking and mobile banking. Data analysis and machine learning is applied for developing, maintaining and improving these rules and models. With every new iteration and every new insight we make the bank safer and protect our customers from fraud. It is on you to ensure the people in your chapter are well equipped and work as a high performing team to take on this challenging tasks.

Your key responsibilities

A Chapter lead role splits her/his time 50-50 over doing Data science/Rulewriting work themselves and leading a chapter. Your key responsibilities as a chapter lead include:

1. Hierarchically overseeing a chapter of 12-15 data scientists and rulewriters. This covers the recruiting of new talents, personal development and evaluation of your Chapter members. You inspire and encourage your Chapter members to develop themselves, provide them coaching on both the professional as well as the personal level. You stimulate the Chapter members towards continuous improvement of their skills and expertise;

2. Developing individuals and teams and maintaining a high level of performance, taking into account that as a cross-border tribe teams can work at different locations and countries.

3. Being an ambassador for cultural change and a role model in terms of the new Agile Way of Working: ensure continuous learning based on feedback, taking into account the different backgrounds of people across cultures and geographies;

4. Maintaining a vision on developments within the fraud and cybersecurity domain, especially with a focus on real-time fraud detection. You share these developments within the chapter to ensure the continuous learning;

5. You take an active role in the development and execution of our fraud detection roadmaps. Aiming to say one step ahead of fraudsters. Now and in the future.

In your role as data scientist and rule writer your key responsibilities are developing and maintaining fraud detection models.  In particular, you will help setup a data science workflow to roll out fraud detection models on our Spark/Hadoop platform. Additionally, you will analyze modus operandi, do reporting, create impact analyses and advice on fraud detection and prevention.

Candidate Profile

MSc or PhD with excellent academic results in the field of Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or similar. Strong analytical skills and affinity with IT. You are fluent in English, fluency in Dutch or French is a plus.

You understand and are comfortable with applying machine learning and developing statistical models. Furthermore, you see how you can apply these methodologies in an online real-time environment. We are looking for people with exceptional talents and capabilities!

Specific knowledge, experience & skills:

As a Chapter Lead data science and Rulewriting in fraud detection it is important to have an understanding of and experience with most of the below:

  • Machine Learning:  A grasp of the workings and applicability of popular machine learning algorithms; e.g. Random Forest, Neural Networks, Support Vector Machines
  • Programming Languages: Python, SQL, SAS
  • Tools: Jupyter/Zeppelin, Spark, Hadoop, MapReduce, RiskShield.
  • Domain knowledge : Knowledge of the cybercrime/security, banking sector and fraud is a plus.
  • Rulewriting: Creation of elaborate and effective fraud detection rules.
