Enterprise Architect/ Lead for Global Networking in Amsterdam

Your role & work environment

• You are a multi-disciplinary architect and your main focus is the core infrastructure that supports the running applications of ING banks globally.
• You are part of globally distributed team of architects that are collectively responsible for all ING Tech infrastructure architecture and design.
• Private and public cloud hosting environments are in-scope for this role.
• Extensive automation and simplification of complex systems will be required in a multi-year strategy
• Deployment of platform eco-system based reuse, build and buy decision making.
• The home office of this function can be anywhere however moderate travel to and from the Netherlands and our other countries of presence will be required for this role.

 What you will do

• As Enterprise Architect with the functional role of Lead of Global Networking you will focus on the scope of networking infrastructure for our bank as it morphs into a global entity.
• Implement extensive automation of overlay networks and firewall junctions using shift-left concepts, automated scripting and continuous delivery pipelines.
• You’re main focus will be:
  • All datacentre, compute, storage and network related matters for ING globally;
  • Specific network services: (Global WAN, datacentre (virtual) networking, Cloud networking, global DDoS protection, global firewall automation, load balancing etc.);
  • International connectivity and hosting for ING in a secure way and protect ING against outside treats to facilitate the journey to the ING private cloud and future public cloud;
  • Datacentre design from physical through to the virtualization layer.
  • Public Cloud integration with ING networks and systems.
• Define long term roadmap for the infrastructure (horizon 2/3)
• Translate long term roadmap for the infrastructure domains in mid-term (yearly) activities (horizon 2)
• Support definition of short term activities and dependencies in the quarterly business review for the Tech Infra tribes (horizon 1)
• Define standards and present them in the global Infrastructure Standards Board (ISB) and the overarching global Technology Standards Board (TSB)
• Contribute to the continuous transformation of the infra architecture practices and roles, to adapt to an evolving Agile, CI/CD and cloud computing world.
• To support the development and craftsmanship of the lead engineers, feature engineers, and your fellow infrastructure architects
• To take part in development of the strategic partner ecosystem to deliver value for ING and our partners.

We are looking for

• A credible leader with both extensive practical hands on engineering with IT infrastructure, and excellent architecture knowledge and experience.
• In depth knowledge of network automation, continuous delivery, source code based declarative change based models.
• Demonstratable experience in large scale automation projects.
• An inspiring communicator who can explain the technology roadmap and translates them into practical strategies and ambitions to all levels in the organization
• A transformation technology leader who is recognized as inspiring, influencing, engaging and capable of explaining the complex, in an understandable in their way to management and engineers.
• A leader with a talent for taking it on and making it happen, enthusiasm for helping others to be successful and a knack for always being a step ahead.
• Self-starter who can run with concepts and turn them into reality.

How to succeed

• Bachelor Degree is preferred.
• 2-5 years’ professional experience at management level
• 8+ years’ experience in architecture or engineering roles
• Proven track record of developing and operating strategic infrastructure services in a large enterprise
• Proven experience with the Agile Way of Working
• Proven track record of working in a diverse matrix international environment
• Proven experience in building strategic roadmaps
• Expertise in driving and steering multidisciplinary teams
• Proven experience in strategic projects with high impact
• Excellent level of English
