At the Royal Schiphol Group, we have established a Data, AI & Analytics department (DnA), tasked with accelerating our group-wide transition to a truly data-driven organization. This team also oversee the strategic use of AI, data and applied data science across the Royal Schiphol Group to identify growth opportunities and areas for innovation with new data products and services. The team is also responsible for data governance & quality frameworks, our BI function and the close connection with IT on a future-proof data infrastructure.

A Data Engineer designs and builds systems to fetch, transform, store and deliver data and/or systems closely related to that (e.g. deploying machine learning models). A Data Engineer understands the importance of data quality, reliability, integrity, security and data modelling techniques and applies this understanding to design solutions that meet the needs of the business. To implement and maintain these solutions he or she writes software (code), sets up and managed reliable and secure infrastructure in collaboration with architects and provides proper documentation.

• 3 - 5 years’ experience in a similar role
• Experience working on large scale data processing platforms in a business critical setting
• Experience with Scala programming language
• Experience with Kubernetes, apis
• Good knowledge of cloud systems such as Azure, AWS , GCP (We use Azure)
• Experience with event-driven application development (Kafka, Kinesis, etc)
• Experience with Apache Spark or Apache Flink

Plus knowledge

• Deploying ML models to production
• Building and deploying data pipelines in the cloud, we use Azure
• Docker and/or Kubernetes
• Linux, including shell scripting Plus other
• Work in an agile environment, prioritize work
• Can clearly communicate with stakeholders, third parties
• Fluent in English, because we work with an international team
• Participate rotating on-call duty (if needed)
