At the Royal Schiphol Group, we have established a Data, AI & Analytics department (DnA), tasked with accelerating our group-wide transition to a truly data-driven organization. This team also oversee the strategic use of AI, data and applied data science across the Royal Schiphol Group to identify growth opportunities and areas for innovation with new data products and services. The team is also responsible for data governance & quality frameworks, our BI function and the close connection with IT on a future-proof data infrastructure.

What will you do as a Senior Data Analyst?
As a Senior Data Analyst you’ll support Schiphol’s business areas by providing insights into the performance of their business processes. You will specialize in one of the three main domains around the airport (operations, assets or commercial). By combining and interpreting data from multiple sources you will derive insights that help our airport function safer, more sustainable and more efficient.

You will work on a great diversity of datasets and data problems.
To give you an idea:

• Use occupancy and queuing data to gain more insight in the check-in process and hence prevent dangerous situations in the light of Covid-19;
• Analyse data from the aircraft docking processes to identify process inefficiencies;

Many of the use-cases you’ll work on have a direct effect on the Airport and its passengers and when you look out of the window from your workplace, you’ll see your work in action.

As a Senior Data Analyst, you will work closely with business stakeholders and the team of Data Scientists and Data Analysts to:

• Understand the business and the levers they can turn to optimize their processes; in your conversations with the business you help formulating the most relevant business- and analysis questions;
• Lead a project team and coach team members to develop and deliver analyses and insights; set up plans for your projects and manage day-to-day progress;
• Select the best data sets from a variety of complex data sources ranging from radar data to IoT sensors in the terminal; support in making data available and set requirements;
• Create insight for the business, advice on next steps and uncover new possibilities based on your analyses.

Competencies and skills:

• MSc or PhD in a relevant field, like mathematics, physics, computer science etc.
• 5+ Years of experience as Data Analyst;
• Good understanding of statistics;
• Analytical and content strength;
• Basic management skills, including stakeholder management, (agile) project management, expectation management and coaching;
• Good social skills: interviewing and gathering requirements, storytelling with data, presenting outcomes;
• Interest in the aviation sector and the complexity of an Airport;
• A curious mindset and an appetite for learning new things every day;
• Team player: strikes effective balance between independence and acting in the interest of the team. We’ll be looking for a real ‘click’;
• Communicative skills: fluent in English is a must. Knowledge of the Dutch language is a plus.
• Entrepreneurial, responsible and with a contagious level of enthusiasm.

You are knowledgeable and have experience with:

• Translating high level business questions into concrete analysis;
• Visualizing data and creating insights e.g. using dashboarding tooling;
• Managing projects and small teams;
• Working with data and the tools needed to do so (e.g. SQL, Python or R, Jupyter, Git and Power BI)
