Wholesale Banking Data Lake is transitioning from a traditional data warehousing landscape to a big data platform that processes millions of files containing TBs of data with all the necessary (security) controls, monitoring and automation in place that make the solution scalable and in line with banking minimum standards. Within our environment key critical processes run on a daily basis that support strategic ING bank wide initiatives which are used across the world.

To assist us forward on this exciting journey, we are looking for a Chapter Lead Data Engineering to lead our team of experts. The new chapter lead will be responsible for improving our global data engineering workforce, modernizing our data pipeline & ETL frameworks and help shape the future of our big data platform.

Our ideal candidate is an experienced data engineer with strong expertise and thorough understanding of data warehousing and (relational) database concepts and has previous management experience in this field or domain

Experience in the Agile methodologies would be a perfect fit, able to slice and dice work/ideas in clear stories and tasks.

Responsibilities for Chapter Lead Data Engineering

• Extensive and proven technical background in data warehousing with a good understanding of its core elements such as data ingestion, data unification/modeling and data consumption as well interest in elements related to data governance such as data quality, data lineage and metadata management.
• The ability to identify structural and preferably automated solutions to common technical challenges by taking the lead in drafting designs, refining the workload and guiding the implementation towards production
• Technical leadership paving the way forward for our global data engineering workforce, improving the craftmanship of our department, retaining and hiring talent and working with other chapter leads in our domain

Qualifications for Chapter Lead Data Engineering

• We are looking for a candidate with 5+ years of experience in a Data Engineering role, who has attained a Graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field.
• Experience with ETL processes and tools (experience with IBM Datastage or similar ETL tooling) and a good understanding of Data Warehousing concepts
• Experience with data integration specifically related to ETL frameworks and data pipelining
• Experience with database design, modelling and data analysis on large volumes of data
• Excellent knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts (experience with Oracle RDBMS or similar)
• Experience with Linux operating system or other Unix systems
• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, to be able to align with various stakeholders and cross border squads
• Technical leadership skills, able to motivate and advance the global data engineering practice and its craftmanship to the next level
• Understanding of Agile - Scrum methodology
