Empowering people to stay a step ahead in life and business is ING’s purpose and the main driver for ING Labs. We focus on increasing the pace of innovation to serve changing customer needs. The Labs focus on thinking beyond traditional banking to develop new services to take to market.
This specific initiative will focus on the Retail Affluent customer segment.
You will be working in the ING Labs Amsterdam office in a very international and dynamic environment. The customer drives the ING innovation methodology process (PACE) and you will validate the key assumptions of the proposition and the business along the way.
A market to develop
This initiative is about serving the large Retail Affluent segment by providing an engagement layer to support them in their personal investment decisions. It recently came out of an expedition, a key topic for ING to stay relevant in this segment.
The current strategy for ING Retail is to move from savings to investments and increase fee-based income. Investments is one of the most important retail services that ING could stimulate x-buy towards increasing this fee income. This initiative could increase fee income in both the Netherlands and Belgium as well as in countries like Australia, Germany and Spain. The Affluent segment is currently not being properly served, as the traditional advice model was too expensive to maintain and the Mass segment offers no advanced digital tooling that has proven to be effective in digitally converting to investment sales.
As the Corporate Venture Builder, you will work with another Corporate Venture Builder to start from a market opportunity and conduct experiments to further shape and validate a concrete proposition. Together, you will define and drive the business vision for the initiative, setting priorities and taking decisions on the roadmap keeping it all under the budget given.
You will get support from Labs support units like a PACE coach and a service designer.
Starting at Discovery phase, the initiative will go through a stage gated innovation process with the goal of creating a new start-up and later scale-up, inside or outside of ING. To validate the vision, you will align with internal and external sponsors and other stakeholders such as Global Retail and Investments. You’ll also work closely with the Private Banking and Retail Banking team in the Netherlands, as the initiative will focus there.
You are expected to produce in 6 weeks a strong pitch for the first stage gate, including:
Refine the problem statement
Identify the persona within the Affluent segment
Identify opportunities, gaps and trends in the ecosystem
Articulated opportunity for ING (e.g. revenue, cost savings, customers)
An understanding of INGs role to play
Along the way, you will be responsible for validated customer assumptions, proposed business model and high level business case, a minimal viable product (MVP) prototype and the plan to execute the further development of the MVP into to a product.
As an intrapreneur or entrepreneur, you have previous experience of building a start up from scratch keeping in mind Corporate regulations and aligning with all stakeholders involved
You are a passionate professional with an existing footprint in the digital Retail segment
You have a data-driven approach and proven track records of successful outcomes
You are an entrepreneurial spirit – the status quo isn’t good enough for you
You are familiar working with Lean Start Up and Design Thinking
You are already involved with several start-ups networks
You’re able to manage a project within a budget and make financial decisions accordingly
You are a leader, team player and coach and don’t mind to roll up your sleeves
You have an energetic, positive mind set and can-do mentality
