ING is looking for an experienced Tech Lead to help build the Analytics Platform and enable our Global Analytics ambition

Job description

As tech lead of the Machine Learning Platform, you will be joining ING’s global Analytics organization. You will work as a Platform Engineer in the squad and apply your Software Engineering expertise and domain experience in developing the platform for productionalizing machine learning models. You positively contribute to putting research into production and introduce & nurture innovation within it. Additionally, you will work closely with data scientists, architects, product managers and engineers to cocreate the Analytics Platform vision.

Your work environment

The ING WB Advanced Analytics team is a team of 120 people that has the mission to make ING data-driven. We do this by combining UX research and engineering with data science to deliver high-value solutions and products for our organization. We work in a fun and creative environment and we’re dedicated to bringing out the best in both each other and our projects. We have offices in Amsterdam (main office), London, Warsaw, Katowice and Bucharest.

Before a machine learning model can add value to an organization, it needs to run in Production. Getting a model to production is notoriously challenging. You need to account for data management, IT, compliancy, monitoring, integrating with other applications, etc. Going through this process for every model is both time-consuming and expensive. To empower engineers and data scientists across ING to easily deploy and run Machine Learning Models in production, safely, compliant and at scale, the Machine Learning Platform was created.

The team is one of the teams of the Data Analytics Platform, and is currently responsible for the part of the platform that supports the productionalization of embedded analytics models.

Do you recognize yourself in this profile:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering / AI / Computer Science
• Experience with productionalizing Machine Learning Models and the model life cycle;
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java or Scala. Familiarity with the Scala ecosystem is a strong plus;
• You have a learning attitude. Not only to master new technologies and programming languages, but also on the interpersonal level. You are proven to be able to ask and give feedback;
• You feel at home in a high-performing team and you make the other team members feel at home as well. You have the independence to speak up when needed;
• Demonstrable experience with systems engineering in a highly regulated enterprise environment;
• Experience with (REST) API design and service meshes;
• Strong understanding of container-based platforms and tooling including Docker. Familiarity with Kubernetes and/or OpenShift is a strong plus;
• Fluent in written and spoken English (Dutch is not required);

Nice to have:

• Being an Open Source contributor is a strong plus.
• Experience with building CI/CD pipelines. Familiarity with Azure DevOps or CD4ML is a plus;
• Experience with configuration management technology (e.g. Ansible);
• Good understanding of streaming technologies Kafka or Flink;

• Good understanding of databases; both RDBMS and non-SQL;
• Experience in building 0-downtime distributed software systems;
• Experience with working in an agile/scrum way, but at least you have a strong willingness to do so;
