Python DevOps Engineer in Amsterdam

You are an experienced and enthusiastic Python 3 developer and you like to share knowledge, coach your colleagues on development practices, and you love the freedom to grow yourself and your colleagues towards new technologies.

You have good communication skills and you love to interact and collaborate with your colleagues. It is part of the everyday work to do pair programming, help others with your knowledge, present and participate in our weekly Guilds (we have two of them) and asking your colleagues for explanation when you expect coaching.

Being this Python developer, you embrace open source. You can find your way in the fast Python third party library landscape, and you might have written some of your own. Linux, Kafka, KeyDB, and technologies like Docker and Elastic are on your reading list. Message based technologies are among your main interests.

You have a growth mindset and you are very curious. You love to learn new skills and you ask "why" a lot of times!

We are FeRDI, the ING Group Services Data Foundation integration platform for all Finance and Risk applications of ING. We have created this open source platform to connect the Finance and Risk applications to each other, by offering Kafka and REST services, file transfer services and lots of business aggregations and transformations. We host these services using Docker and Docker Swarm in the ING Private Cloud. We use Microsoft Azure DevOps to automate our build and release processes.

We are completely self-propelling: we host our own Kafka cluster, our own Elastic cluster, our own KeyDB cluster, our own authentication server, and so on. We execute our own level 1 standby. You are part of this self organizing unit, and you participate in all DevOps tasks to strengthen us even further.

What do you do

• You program Python on a daily basis in a squad that connects Finance and Risk applications.
• You coach and train your colleagues to become great Python developers, or you ask for coaching (which your colleagues will gladly provide) if you need guidance.
• Next to programming, you are helping designing solutions and you review a lot of software, as soon as you are up to it.
• We are an Integration Platform, so Enterprise Application Integration and Service Oriented Architectures are the core knowledge you need to perform design and then represent it using C4 Model Architecture.
• You use Behavior Driven Design (BDD) and TDD to build all of your software, and you apply UML to further specify your software, using PlantUML.
• You love the Python paradigm, and as such you create small sharp tools.
• You automate your work as much as you can, using the solutions we provide, and you might even expand upon that and help your colleagues out.
• You are more quality minded than anyone you know.
• We have two weekly guilds, and you love to be part of most of those, to interact with your fellow developers in other squads.
• You work in a cloud driven platform and you use the freedom we give you to create neat, fast, message based solutions.
• As such, you use Kafka, schemas and REST.
• You love to get to a result, but you never loose quality requirements set by the platform out of sight.
