Senior Data Scientist in Amsterdam

We are looking for an experienced data scientist who wants to contribute to the creation of solutions in the area of financial problems of customers. This includes developing models to identify customers with potential financial problems at an early stage. You will also develop models that both improve the effectiveness of our Collections NL processes and increase the ease with which customers can solve their problems. The goal is to have these customers recover sustainably.

Collections NL aims to be a partner to customers who are in financial difficulty. This by hiring 'caring people' and using advanced analytics. Prevention, increasing the effectiveness of treatment processes and offering smart, convenient and personalized solutions for customers are important themes. 

Arrears Data Science Squad
You will work in the Arrears Data Science Squad (ADSS) where making an impact, continuous learning and fun are key. We enable our ING customers to make data driven choices. This is done by developing (new) models for both prevention and effective, tailored and personalized treatment. The output of our models is vital for the efficient running of the operation. 

In addition to developing new models, we want to keep improving the current models in production step by step.
Are there better ways to tackle the problem?
Can we create new features based on new sources? 

Most of your time will be spent on model development. As a member of squad ADSS you are also responsible for the life cycle of the Collections NL models. This means that you will periodically check if the model input and output are as expected. Of course we do this as much as possible in an automated way. We challenge you to improve the current way of monitoring.
 

We have developed our Python package collections NL. This is a kind of model factory that allows us to generate features and develop models relatively quickly. You will also be involved in adding new functionality, testing and further professionalizing our package.  

You will also frequently coordinate with data engineers, machine learning engineers, data analysts and customer journey experts to enable the bringing of models into production.

What do you need to be successful?
- Minimum 5 years of relevant and demonstrable experience in developing and bringing models to production
- Relevant academic education (MSc or Ph.D.)
- Programming languages and tooling: extensive experience in Python, pySpark, Git, SQL, Linux, Hadoop.
- Experience in Google Cloud Platform (Dataproc, BigQuery) is a plus. 
- Good knowledge of Machine Learning: Classification, Regression, Clustering, etc. You are able to explain which techniques best fit the business problem and how model output can be used.
- Experience with NLP is an advantage  
- Software engineering experience is a plus
- Experience with agile/scrum in the context of data science projects
- You are driven to continuously develop and/or broaden your own expertise, both technically and personally
- You take initiative and step up to people when they have information you need.
