Front-end Chapter Lead FM Pricing

The opportunity

We are in search of an experienced and passionate Front-end Chapter Lead for our globally used Pricing and Risk management platform. Our tribe is part of Financial Markets & Group Treasury, responsible for delivering IT solutions for trading, risk analysis, and hedging.

As a Chapter Lead, you are a senior engineer and seen by your colleagues as a go-to person; you are responsible for managing, coaching, and inspiring a Chapter of Front-end engineers spanning multiple teams. Your main task is to enable your engineers to grow their mastery and improve themselves every day. The other half of your time, you will be leading by example. You will determine strategy, drive innovation, and deliver in a squad.

The team

The squad you will be working in consists of 8 developers and a UX designer, all of them responsible for the ING Pricing Portal. The portal enables our internal clients (risk managers and traders) to calculate financial risk metrics, do risk simulations and manage trades. The Web Components-based Portal is a long-term strategic solution and a success factor in the Financial Markets digitization and acceleration program.

We need you if you love to build journeys that are not just good enough but are surprisingly Personal, Remarkably Easy, and Refreshingly Smart (our 3 UX pillars). In delivering these top-notch journeys, we enable our clients to stay one step ahead.

Based in Amsterdam, we expect you to be responsible and take ownership together with your colleagues in Amsterdam, Brussels, Bucharest, the UK, India, and Singapore. Be open, honest, proactive, and communicate clearly.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Determine the long-term strategy for the team and portal application; continuously improving the user experience while also reducing the time-to-market
  • Contribute to designing, prototyping and developing complex web interfaces
  • Develop and promote reusable Web Components that can be utilized by other ING teams (not only in Financial Markets)
  • Mentor and enable your chapter members
  • Help back-end developers to come up with good REST APIs
  • Stimulate sharing of knowledge and good practices of front-end development within the teams

How to succeed

We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself.

  • You love to inspire people and teams to grow; you have experience managing and getting the best out of people and teams
  • Strong people management skills
  • You have experience with leading teams/Engineers and managing complex codebases in an enterprise setting
  • You have a strong interest and clear vision on front-end technology and micro front ends, and you have solid knowledge and understanding of component-based development (React, Polymer, lit-element, etc.)
  • You thrive on making the best possible user experience
  • You are an experienced frontend engineer and a hardcore JavaScript developer with more than 6 years of experience in front-end development
  • You have experience with performance measurements and optimizations.
  • You have worked with and have a thorough understanding of state management systems (like Redux, XState)
  • You understand the basic principles of UX and RESTful API design.
  • You believe that the easiest way to ensure software quality is by having proper testing. Hence, you have used at least a few of the test libraries/tools (Jasmine, Karma, Selenium etc.)
  • You appreciate the importance of security and accessibility and always build your applications with it in mind
  • Experience and thorough understanding of continuous delivery, deployment tools and pipelines (preferable Azure DevOps)
  • Knowledge of, working background or just an interest in Financial Markets is very welcome
  • You are a strong team player; you love to share knowledge and you are interested in other people’s work
  • You are enthusiastic about working in an Agile setup
