Technology Lead Digital Channels in Amsterdam

Beschrijving

We are looking for a Technology Lead with a drive to enable ING Engineers globally to speed up their software delivery to achieve a state-of-the-art differentiating customer experience.

Customers are increasingly digital. Their needs and expectations are the same, all over the world, and they expect us to adopt new technology as fast as companies in other sectors. In order to continue to lead in digital banking, we need to offer a customer experience, that’s instant, frictionless, surprisingly personal and relevant.

The opportunity

Our technological platform is at the heart of ING’s strategy providing rapidly the capabilities that enable our business to provide scalable business applications. This high performing platform contributes to increasing the speed of the IT Engineering journey (way of working practices). We believe that the best way to accelerate on cutting edge technology and faster delivery is giving all our Engineers the best possible platform and tools by which they can respond rapidly to changing customer demands.

ING is looking for a Technology Lead (role fulfilled from function as Feature Engineer). As the Technology Lead you will face nice challenges. ING has an exciting future ahead. Moving from locally oriented customer journeys and IT engineering way of working towards a love brand for 50 million people using ING globally reusable technology. Technology is changing at an ever-increasing pace which requires you to continuously adapt our (global) technologies and practices to the benefit of all our BizDevOps teams. The Technology Lead empowers BizDevOps in fulfilling ING’s customer promises on a more and more global scale by taking lead on continuous innovation, adoption, and improvement of technology.

The team

You will be part of the team of 4 Technology Leads. You take the lead and facilitate the technology strategy on ING’s road to global scalability. Your focus will be technologies used to develop and operate the API / back-end part of ING’s channels (microservices, functions, databases, hybrid cloud infrastructure, monitoring tooling, CI/CD pipelines, etc.). Your technology strategy takes care of the complete technology stacks and the entire engineering journey. From idea -> design -> develop -> build -> run -> operate -> feedback -> new idea. Including both API / back-end application and coherent infrastructure and developer tooling. You ensure our organization as a whole continuously adapts to (new) technologies and engineering practices. Your responsibility is widespread across teams and departments. You will work with large groups and work on solutions used by 350+ members of Omnichannel and collaborate with other departments using similar technologies globally across ING.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Facilitate new API / back-end and platform related technology innovation to stay ahead in the adoption curve for technologies which provide value within the context of ING feature delivery by BizDevOps squads.

  • Initiate technological and architectural changes required to reuse and operate the API / back-end part of ING’s channels across countries in Europe and beyond, serving ING’s customers on a global scale

  • Act as a stakeholder within ING towards other IT platform owners to continuously improve adopted technologies and their usability from the perspective of a full stack and end-to-end engineering journey.

  • Accelerate engineering software delivery with sustainable change on API / back-end standards needed for ING in the future.

  • Initiate technological adoption and migrate to new (ING global) IT platforms like changing CI/CD pipelines, Hybrid Cloud infra and monitoring tooling. Ensure that our API / back-end tech stacks integrate as a whole across those technology areas.

  • Experience with Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence and how this technology can contribute to achieving business objectives like more advanced personalization.

  • Enforce strategy deployment. Mentor BizDevOps squads in the movement from local context towards the one global vision.

  • Grasp and guide new innovations/learnings by engineers or from the market via conferences or meetups to bring this forward together to scale throughout ING.

  • Drive continuous improvement on adopted technologies to streamline and improve the engineering journeys available for BizDevOps teams.

  • Mentor the continuous improvement of the engineering journey to shorten the time to value, shorten the time to market.

How to succeed

We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself.

To achieve success and great results you are one with the business perspective and anticipate to be on time for the demand to be ready with the right technology. As you do not own the technology platforms used by engineers yourself, you have proven stakeholder management capabilities to make a positive impact through collaboration and (in)direct influence.

Because you are well organized, prepared and have your schedule up to date you are able to make the best decision of that day on what to pick up first for the day after tomorrow and make that happen going forward.

During a dynamic day your work loops from short to long term horizon and vice versa. Looking to the day after tomorrow you continuously have the ambition to improve the platform as well as the engineering delivery process.

Periodically you will have market visits, bring outside in view, and analyse in ING what is needed for a longer horizon. And that’s not all. You set and share a clear vision on the API / back-end development engineering journey by translating this into IT capabilities direction via your roadmap and align this with several Engineering Leads.

So, you will work in an ever-changing environment with dozens of squads and processes. This means that you need to learn quickly, be alert and adapt to reality. Finally, if you want to be the best, you daily pay attention to continuously changing reality. Therefore, you balance the work needed to be done that has the most business value. Further on you deal with direct insights and organizational forces that need to be managed and planned with the stakeholders (Tribe management teams, User Groups, Business representatives).

Ultimately, in the end, you are the driving Technology Lead and responsible that ING squads globally can accelerate and deliver a surprisingly Omnichannel user experience to ING customers.

Are you interested? Your personal “backpack” should contain:

  • A Master’s degree in Information Technology or have 5+ years’ experience as a developer in modern API / back-end frameworks. Proficient knowledge in J2EE frameworks, Spring frameworks, JVM based frameworks, Infra/Hybrid Cloud stacks, Continuous Delivery & Integration tools, ML / AI solutions, monitoring tooling.

  • Work experience as IT consultant with at least 5 years within large scaled Agile organizations, with multiple Agile scrum DevOps teams, and well recognized multiple achievements in the delivery of IT4IT epics.

  • Experience with the creation and implementation of technological delivery frameworks for DevOps squads within large companies.

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and in writing) and storytelling capability in fluent English, clearly articulating the rationale and links to a defined strategy and goals to large groups.

  • As a person easy approachable, holistic view and analytic consultancy skills, managerial skills.

  • A team player with ‘we-mentality’ and strong organizational skills.

  • Result- and delivery-oriented mentality. You take it on and make it happen. You are recognized in right value output against good quality and planning, purpose and epic creation (OGSM), dependency management and broad stakeholder management.

  • An eye for the customer journey, customer needs and outside market developments.

  • Prove that you are constantly improving and sharing your IT knowledge (books, tutorials, weblogs, presentations at congresses).

  • Legal and risk awareness.

If you tick the bigger part of these boxes, then we are looking for you!
