Data Protection Executive Officer

ING is looking to recruit a new member for the Bank Data Protection Executive Office (Bank DPE Office) within Chief Data Management Office (CDMO).


Your work environment:

CDMO is an international and fast moving department within ING, which provides the platform and organizational governance for industry leading data management and it plays a critical role in making the digital data driven strategy of the bank a success.

The Bank DPE Office is a head office function within the CDMO and provides direction, guidance and support to implement and further mature data protection across ING. The DPE Office works in assignment of and in cooperation with the Bank DPE, a role which is executed by the Bank COO, member of the Management Board Banking.


Job description:

As a member of the Bank DPE Office you will play an important role in supporting and further improving data protection within the bank. Work consists of supporting your Bank DPE Office colleagues in further developing guidance and global standards on different areas of data protection and first line monitoring activities. Furthermore you will also work on further strengthening the data protection community by creating and developing regular news letters, creating and moderating the DPE Bank Office community on Yammer and Intranet, sharing news and interesting developments in the area of data Protection that could impact ING, etc. You will work closely with DPE Offices in the Business Units and Bank Support Functions, with the Bank Data Protection Office (Bank DPO Office) and other non-financial risk representatives from IRM, ORM and Compliance. You will contribute in building a culture of continuous improvements in data protection management and compliance.


Key responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve the way ING processes and protects personal data and support execution thereof.
  • Strengthen the data protection community and promote activities of the Bank DPE Office by writing regular news letters, creating and moderating the Bank DPE Office community on Yammer and Intranet, sharing news and interesting developments in the area of data Protection that could impact ING.
  • Collect and share best practices in data protection management and share them with the DPE Office community.
  • Maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders in first and second line.
  • Anticipate and implement changes around data protection management due to policy adjustments.
  • Coordinate actions and support in providing guidance, templates and documents in areas where a centralized approach on data protection management is necessary or useful.
  • Functional alignment with the local DPE Offices and helping units to close existing gaps.

Who are we looking for?

  • You are pragmatic and problem-solving, yet have an eye for the regulatory context and boundaries.
  • You have some experience in data protection / privacy and are comfortable working in an international context.
  • You are experienced in maintaining a (global) community of professionals
  • You have some experience working in or with risk management functions.
  • You have outstanding social skills and can communicate effectively on all organizational levels.
  • You are transparent and flexible and able to act at operational level.
  • Above all, you are skilled, passionate and driven to work in data protection and are geared to make data protection compliance a success for the bank.
  • Experience in and knowledge of Information Risk Management, Information Security and/or Data Management is a plus.
