Teamlead Development and Python in Amsterdam

The opportunity 

ING is looking for a chapter lead with expertise in people management combined with engineering Python for proving host-to-host communication, to strengthen our DevOps teams responsible for the Global Digital Channels of ING Wholesale Banking Tech.

You will be primarily contributing to providing a host-to-host services (InsideBuseiness connect, including EBICS) solution for the automated processing of large volumes of payment orders from commercial customers, and the provision of reports back to them. Your work will involve delivering high available IT solutions and actively participating in the onboarding of new customers. In addition, you are expected to contribute to continuous delivery and continuous integration practices.

Your work environment

You will work in the dynamic and challenging environment of the IT organization of ING Global Digital Channels. We operate according to a Scrum Agile development process and strongly believe in the BIzDevOps approach to delivering IT solutions. The focus is on high-quality mission-critical software delivered in time using iterative development with regular milestone demos to the business, so that at the end there are no surprises about what we build.

Feature delivery is driven by the priorities determined by the Business and Product Owners, working on a day-to-day basis with the IT organization to ensure the delivery optimal added value.

The main engineering challenges addressed at all times by our DevOps are:

• meeting the appropriate availability, integrity and confidentiality our stakeholders expect
• consider the outcome of prioritization processes and related dependencies
• handle software evolution, isolated or throughout chains of systems
• perform meaningful testing for several relevant goals (e.g. regression, user acceptance, and performance)
• aim at improving time-to-market and added business value

Role and responsibilities 

The chapter lead role contains the following challenges for you:

• As an energetic Chapter Lead with expertise in people management, you are an engineer and this will be your role in the squad for 60% of your time. With your fellow squad member, you develop and deliver features to production.
• The remaining 40% you spend on building up expertise in your chapter and developing your chapter members. You are enthusiastic about transferring your knowledge to others, and about coaching members of your Chapter and overseeing their personal development.
• You help your chapter develop through coaching, mentoring and constant feedback
• Together with your IT Area Lead, you set targets for each team member
• You are responsible for HR-related activities: For instance 1 to 1 meetings with your team members, performance management.
• You work with the recruitment team to attract, onboard and retain top talent.

• Master of Science in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
• You love technology and naturally stay up-to-date on relevant new developments.
• You have a strong customer-centric mindset, helping ING to excel in onboarding customers (responding to their expectations and needs)
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in leading and coaching fellow engineers in a hierarchical role.
• Experience leading chapters or teams developing highly concurrent and reliable distributed systems is a plus
• At least 5 years’ experience in software development. Capable of developing features in multiple languages, at least Java and Python, e.g. adding features for high scalability mission-critical applications. Experience with development on RESTful API’s is preferred.
• Experience with automation of the deployment pipeline in Ansible.
• Good knowledge Linux fundamentals, with the ability to apply it in the context of modern operating systems.
• Knowledge of encryption, hashing mechanisms.
• Knowledge of connectivity (e.g. XFB), firewalls, proxies, and VPNs preferred.
• You are proactive, perseverant and value a multi-cultural work environment.
• You have the ability to work independently and together with your own team, being also capable to efficiently align with other internal parties or external customers.
• You have very good analytical and problem solving skills.
• Fluent communication skills in English.
