IT DevOps Engineer supporting Global Treasury within ING

The opportunity

We are looking for a passionate IT specialist within our IT support team who loves to solve and prevent technical problems regarding stability, capacity, and performance. You enjoy technical challenges like Linux, Oracle, MQ, XFB, and Shell scripts. If you are pro active, have a can do mentality, not afraid to take ownership and easily get on with people from different cultural backgrounds you can help to strengthen our support team.

The team

You will work in the dynamic and challenging environment of the IT organization of Global Treasury Operations/Liquidity Management within ING Payments and Settlements Utility. We operate according to a Scrum Agile development process and strongly believe in the DevOps approach to deliver IT solutions. The support team consists of 6 people located in India and a product owner located in Amsterdam. The team is responsible for the support of two applications within the Global Treasury department of ING. “Smart Predict” is a combined front and back office liquidity management application, used to monitor the overall currency position and individual nostro positions for the whole range of banking products. ING configures the application and its interfaces and has built some solutions on top of it. “PayPlus” is the system to do settlements with CLS Bank. Both applications are build and maintained by an external vendor. You will be working closely together with 2 IT development squads operating from Romania and Amsterdam. The users we are supporting are located in different regions like Asia, Europe and United States.

Roles and responsibilities

The challenging environment for the Ops engineer is focused around an Agile way of working; dynamic environment with lots of change and highly visible applications that deliver services towards the whole group. You will be able to technically lead other developers / operations staff to deliver the priorities set by the product owner.

The Ops Engineer’s primary responsibility is to ensure the operational stability, resilience, integrity, and availability of the Applications. You will proactively identify application, system and process related problems. You will assume leadership of your DevOps team when an Incident occurs and your Application has an outage or is part of a Major Incident that affects the operation of your Application.

In this role you will be part of a squad responsible for delivering business value. All members of the Squad are multi-skilled with their primary and secondary responsibilities and corresponding skill set. As Ops Engineer your primary responsibilities are broadly classified below. However, you are also expected to learn and demonstrate new skills.

  • Supporting the applications including incident management, monitoring, risk management, capacity management and security;
  • Testing and implementation of new releases;
  • Experience of deploying and running the application with industry leading CD/CI tools like Azure DevOps;
  • Specifying, designing and performing resilience and availability tests (including High Availability and Disaster Recovery Tests);
  • Specifying, designing, testing and deployment of system runtime and rollback scripts (e.g. stop / start / purge / backup);
  • Experience in Linux, RHEL, shell scripting, crontab jobs and python for automation of regular jobs;
  • Knowlede on Wildfly and Tomcat webservers and Zookeeper;
  • Configuring and implementing system and application monitoring using Prometheus, Grafana, or other industry standard tools;
  • Oracle DB and SQL scripts, PL/SQL, and basic DBA activities;
  • Implementing the security policy so that the system is secure at operating system, database and application level;
  • Working with Unix based full stack technology where applications are hosted;
  • Experience with Middleware like e.g. MQ, XFB, Kafka
  • Cloud infrastructure and setting up of applications into our ING Private Cloud;
  • Lifecycle management of application and underlying infrastructure. Understanding of large and complex infrastructure and application migrations;
  • Perform Incident, Problem and Change Management activities, including writing user stories for resolving problems;
  • Containerization approach for application deployment and experienced with Ansible, Kubernetes and Docker;
