ING is looking for IT Chapter Lead for Java Backend Chapter within Investments area.

We’re looking for an IT Chapter Lead who will lead a Chapter of Java Backend engineers in the Netherlands that is responsible for building and improving Investments platform for our critical backend IT stack for both Mobile and Web.

You are responsible, together with another IT Chapter Lead, for improving and maintaining our Microservices infrastructure for the Investments domain. Along with other IT Chapter Leads you will contribute immensely to the IT Roadmap and future of Investments and make significant impact. You’re continuously looking for improvements in our way of working (WoW) while ensuring a safe and compliant bank.

Our IT Chapter Leads have a positive can-do mindset and they live the Orange Code Behavior. Besides a passion for IT, Chapter Leads have strong people management and coaching skills. You are an ideal candidate as an IT Chapter Lead when you are a senior Engineer and you are seen by colleagues as a go-to person.

You are an ideal candidate:

As an IT Chapter Lead you have strong experience in software delivery and you are seen by colleagues as a go-to person. Along with the IT Area Lead and your fellow IT Chapter Leads you set the standards for software development in your area of expertise. You not only have a strong drive to constantly keep your own expertise up to speed, but also want to make an active contribution to the development and advancement of the people in your chapter and your field.

As an IT Chapter Lead, you are also a “doer”. Fourty percent of your time, you work as a senior engineer. You use your expertise to maximize team performance. You will be the differentiating factor to ensure continuity while moving the Investment Products to ING standards and push innovation and continuous improvement in an environment where you have the possibility to show your work on platforms with high impact for our customers.

The people in your chapter are equally ambitious as you, and you like to transfer your expertise to them and feel satisfaction from coaching (both professionally as personally) less senior chapter members. You are ambitious with what you and your Chapter want to achieve. You stimulate your Chapter members towards continuous improvement of their skills. You speak up and challenge the status quo and lead by example in all essence.

You have:

  • Experience with people management or the ambition to pick this up
  • Experience in Java ecosystem
  • Clear understanding and expertise with Java, SpringBoot and Microservices Architecture
  • Experience and thorough understanding of continuous delivery, deployment tools and pipelines. Having a DevOps mindset is very important to us.
  • Good experience with Testing, Monitoring and Observability tools and practices
  • Strong analytical skills and conceptual / architectural understanding, ability to learn new technical concepts fast
  • Ready to embrace change and is not afraid of frequently changing project direction or stakeholder environment
  • Strong interest and vision in recent trends in software development and technology in general. The IT Chapter Leads are senior engineers who carve the path of ING Bank’s digital transformation
  • Ability to constantly balance between the pressure of (IT Risk) targets of the teams you oversee and the quality of software delivered
  • Experience in Agile / Scrum / DevOps methodologies
  • Strong people management skill and right intention to build and nurture teams with trust
  • Lead by example and be the mentor to junior engineers. Also regularly participate in hiring process to get the right engineers as part of the team

Selection Process

Our selection process follows the next steps:

  • A conversation with a colleague Chapter Lead and a (Lead) Engineer (~1 hour)
  • A conversation with IT Area Lead and Business-CL or Agile Coach. (~1 hour)
