Database Specialist FM&GT tribe in Amsterdam

ING is looking for Database Specialist to strengthen the help guide our DevOps teams across the FM&GT tribe, which supports ING’s strategic wholesale banking trading application systems.

Job Description

As a Database Engineer with significant expertise in Oracle databases, you will be part of our Platform area comprising many agile scrum teams and working in an Agile way on the full lifecycle of the applications, from analysis to implementation, deployment maintenance and continuous evolution. Your role will be to provide the oversight of the Database configurations, guide the implementations, assist with projects and maintenance and run projects from the central database infrastructure teams.

Together with the application teams, you help to fully automate the processes using state of the art tools: deployment, functional/technical/ performance testing, system health checks, security alerts, patching and and anything else that is still done manually.

Additionally, with the organization the data usage is continuously growing and there are many strategic upgrades in progress, planned on envisioned. You will be the key actor to represent the tribe, provide guidance and support for the design and implementations related to our area and help to ensure an ideal fit in terms of functionality, usability, and maintainability. The designs will need to be carefully managed to enable natural scalability, availability and quality.

The bank has scaled out the database infrastructure using a sophisticated virtualized approach to provide the internal cloud like service entitled DBaaS within our organisation.

Sample responsibilities:

• Working with DBaaS Reliability team to resolve FM related issues
• Designing next DBaaS FM platform
• Helping the teams with performance tuning, DBaaS related problems, DBFS clients, Snapshot PDB’s
• Working on all oracle product related issues (java, client, oci etc)
• Work with Management Team members on all DBaaS related issues (upgrades, patches, HW issues etc.)

IT for Financial Markets and Global Treasury (FMGT) is responsible for the IT environment that enables the most crucial commercial activities of ING: Trading, Risk Management, and Liquidity Management. Thousands of trades are being processed in real time by our systems every hour. Flawless processing is key as trades covering billions of euros are passing through our systems each day.

We use top notch in-house engineered solutions and market-leading vendor applications. These systems and applications need to be running virtually 24/7. If they aren’t, Financial Markets will shut down.

Our teams are spread across the Netherlands, Brussels, Poland, Romania, Singapore and India, serving users in over 30 countries worldwide. Our teams are often virtual and the engineers forming them come from almost every continent in the world. Therefore, our main language is English.

Working in DevOps Scrum teams we are end-to-end responsible for our software: feature analysis, design, development, implementation and support of the production environment (we build it, we own it!). We aim to go to fully self-managing and self-optimizing systems.

Your Profile

• 5 plus years of hands-on Oracle experience, specifically:
  • Experience with Oracle Environment Manager
  • Expert level of SQL performance tuning
  • Oracle Database design, use of CDB and PDB
  • Excellent DB and system diagnostic skills
• You have a positive attitude, you think in solutions.
• You enjoy new technologies and methods and transferring them into new ideas and possibilities
• You are always trying to improve your skills, to continuously learn and get better at what you do to be able to deliver the highest quality
• You are a Team player, it is about the team, you trust others and can be trusted
• Your background shows most of the following skills:
  • Relevant education at Bachelor/Master level
  • Interest in experimenting with new technologies and tools
  • An excellent spoken and written command of English
