Chapter lead Global Data Centre Operations in Rotterdam

The opportunity

We are looking for a Chapter Lead (team lead) with a passion for IT Infrastructure, data centre mechanical and electrical infrastructures. The chapter that you will lead is multidisciplinary and cross-functional with end-to-end responsibility for Global Data Center Services to ING’s business. The employees of this chapter are divided into the two squads OPS2 and HaaS.  

The Data Centre as a Service (DCaaS) is the provision of housing services for IT equipment in ING’s global data centres by GTDCN. This service is the foundation of offered IT service; all other IT services are built upon this specific service. As part of the DCaaS in the global data centres, we provide a concurrently maintainable infrastructure, with optimal environmental conditions, in which IT equipment is designed to operate at secured maximum effectiveness.  This housing service contains amongst others the delivery of floor space, redundant cooling and power, physical access security and on-demand network isolation.

The OPS2 squad is responsible for the physical Installation of the IT hardware, cabling on the data centre floors, and maintaining the capacity (M2, Power and Cooling).

The Haas squad is responsible for: ordering, administration, installation and decommissioning of IT hardware and software.

ING is consolidating data centres from Europe, Asia and America into the private Cloud of ING which runs in the global data centres located in the Netherlands. The reliability of these two data centres is key for ING.

The Chapter Lead is a member of the management team of the area Global Data Centres within the Global Tribe Data Centres and Network.

Your job:

As our new Chapter Lead, you are HR responsible for 8-10 data centre engineers. You will coach them and help them to develop themselves. You create a culture in which employees take initiative and responsibility, help each other to be successful and remain a step ahead. You discuss the chapter’s resource planning and development needs with the IT Area Lead and the Product Owner of the two squads.   

Chapter Lead activities will take approximately 40% of your time. Next to that, for 60% of your time, you will be working as a Senior (data centre) Engineer to improve the workforce, help modernize our data centres and develop our data centre software via the ING software pipeline.  

As a member of an energetic team, you will support further development and enhancements regarding data centre services that allow IT equipment to operate at optimal efficiency. Sustainability and risk related topics are very import are key.

You will maintain and develop partnerships with multiple squads within our tribe and broader within ING.

You will participate in agile work processes such as daily stand-ups. Together with your squad, you work on common goals, and a shared backlog, work on developing skills and gain knowledge.

You continuously take the initiative to improve the way of working and the collaboration within your chapter. You frequently align with the Product Owner, the IT Area Lead and other chapter leads.

Competencies - Behaviors:

  • Preferable operational experience with data centres; if not, then willing to follow courses on this topic.

  • Dutch speaking is a pre.

  • Analytical skills, e.g., to be able to understand complex information, extract the essence and translate it into clear definitions.

  • Natural self-motivation and drive to take end-to-end ownership.

  • A can-do mindset.

  • Stress-resistant, working under pressure with high management attention.

  • Flexibility in working hours. At this moment we are working 2 days a week from the location Rotterdam and 2 days from home.

  • Intrinsically positive mindset with a natural tendency to see solutions rather than problems.

  • Independent and autonomous in completing tasks.

  • Open mindset and try new ways of working.

Your education and background

  • Professional and intellectual ability at a bachelor’s degree level.
