Who we are

Global Infrastructure & Engineering (I&E) provides all the global Tech Infrastructure and Engineering services and tooling supporting our Global Engineering workforce. Within Tech I&E, the Tribe Global IT Engineering and Operations (GITEO) serves the goal to provide the end-to-end Engineering Journey for our awesome Engineers, to ensure they can securely design, plan, code, build, deploy, test, run and monitor their application(s).

The Tribe GITEO comprises four Global Areas:

• Global Operations – containing the GMCR, GMIM and the Global ServiceNow platform
• Global Monitoring – delivering the Global Monitoring Data Pipeline (MDPL)
• Global Engineering – providing the Global OnePipeline platform
• Global Engineering Journey – streamlining the Engineering journey with tools and processes and delivering the global test platform

Job description

With your pragmatic and delivery-oriented professional attitude, you put your Engineering background and experience to good use as Chief Product Owner. That means, with your solid technical understanding of Infrastructure and Engineering services, you are overall responsible for ING’s Global CI/CD Pipeline: the OnePipeline.

OnePipeline is based on Azure DevOps, and is the largest commercial implementation of it globally. This is one of our truly key global shared services, which is used by over 20.000 users and which is built according to five key principles:

• Shift left
• Immutability
• Outcomes over impositions
• No customization
• Everything as code

Together with the Area Lead of your Area you set the technical goals and targets, you determine the technical strategy with the Lead Architect and execute this strategy with your Product Owners and Engineers. You are behind the wheel of the delivery roadmap which in turn is agreed with all stakeholders.

You support the Area Lead in attracting, retaining and growing the craftsmanship of the Engineers in your Area. Together with the other I&E AL’s, CPO’s and Tribe Leads you co-define the strategy of the complete Tribe, and you implement the relevant parts of it within your Area.

You will be a member of the GITEO management team, and will be reporting to the Tribe Lead GITEO. The global Engineering community and the global Architecture community are critical for alignment, while is it essential to maintain a solid working relationship with your colleagues inside and outside of Tech I&E.

Key Responsibilities

Together with a team of 70 Engineers, Product Owners, Architects and Feature Engineers, as the Chief Product Owner for Global Engineering you are responsible for further improving the Global OnePipeline Service: reducing waste in the Engineering Journey and taking away the compliancy work of our ING Engineers globally.

The main focus will be on the following capabilities:

• Manage the overall delivery roadmap of the services with a cross-border team that is located in The Netherlands, Poland, Romania, India and The Philippines
• Increase the global adoption of the service within all ING entities
• Manage risk on the services you provide
• Align with all stakeholders globally to improve the service to the benefit of the ING Engineers; including Global Risk and Audit parties, the external regulator and the external auditor
• Ensure adherence to agreed delivery milestones towards the ING Management Board
• Challenge the status quo to ensure the evidencing burden for Engineers will be reduced, which may result in challenging or rewriting ING Policies and Standards
• As the Chief Product Owner for the Global Engineering Area you define the ‘what’, while closely working with and being facilitated by the IT Area Lead who handles the ‘how’
• Look beyond your Area and support the GITEO Tribe and Infra & Engineering organization itself as a member of the Tribe’s MT to continue to improve the ING organization

How to succeed

You are an energetic and proactive (Chief) Product Owner with a true passion for IT and a positive “Do it-Try it-Fix it” mentality. You have good understanding of and experience with Software Engineering and CI/CD. You are a natural team player who forms relationships based on social skills rather than hierarchical structure. You can easily switch context from ING Engineers to external Auditors to MBB.

Additionally, this role requires you to have:

• A true passion for IT, agile IT development and knowledge about Azure DevOps
• A proven track record in large scale IT transformations, preferably within the Financial Services industry
• Experience with functionally leading a large, international Engineering team
• Deep understanding of how risk is managed within a Bank, allowing you to challenge and improve the risk Policies, Standards and processes to the benefit of the ING Engineers without jeopardizing ING
• An inspiring and energetic passion in your presentations to and interactions with various stakeholders
• An academic degree in (Information) Technology
• Excellent command of English, and preferably Dutch
• A willingness to travel internationally
