IT Chapter Lead / Engineering Manager in Amsterdam

The opportunity

Shared Tech Services, ING Bank NL is looking for a passionate and inspiring Engineering Manager (within ING, we use the title Chapter Lead) with a solid software development background and hands-on mentality.

As the area 'Shared Tech Services', our primary goal is to prevent the 'reinvention of the wheel' by offering a proven set of solutions to common problems in employee and professional journeys, such as ticketing, chat, workflows, process mining, analytics etc.

The team

You are responsible for multiple teams, working on a diverse set of applications and services, ranging from .NET & Java to COTS & SaSS applications, focused on knowledge sharing. 

Roles and responsibilities

50% of your time, you will be responsible for helping, hiring, coaching, mentoring and motivating IT experts in your chapter, which will consist of 15 to 30 software engineers.

For the other 50% of your working week, you will work with various internal stakeholders and external business partners to create, build, extend, and onboard new applications and services.

You will be a part of the Shared Tech Services MT along with three other chapter leads and also a part of the extended MT of Corporate Technology (one level higher).

• Extremely results/delivery oriented.
• Proven track record and proficiency in software development (8 + years)
• While you are not expected to write code daily as a part of the job, you are able to help your team when they get stuck.
• Able to conduct technical interviews and hire developers.
• Challenge / Review solution design and architecture.
• Strong interest and vision in recent trends in software development and technology in general.
• We expect the ability to transfer knowledge back to the ING Bank by holding presentations, workshops, writing documentation and most important: setting new standards for the ways we do tech.
• Strong social and communication skills. Being a sparring partner for our business colleagues.
• Experience with working in multidisciplinary teams and iterative way of working is a prereq.
• Fluent in English speaking and writing.
