Product Owner in Utrecht

With over 7 million customers, 28 million monthly visits and 10 million products, bol.com is the most successful online retailer in The Netherlands and Belgium. We currently employ over 1.400 people, including 350 IT professionals in 60 + Scrum teams. These teams autonomously develop a wide range of independent services, so it’s possible and routine for us to exceed 100 releases per week with zero public downtime. To continue innovating with even greater speed and predictability, we are developing a platform as a service (PaaS). This platform enables Scrum teams to minimize dependencies and make our ‘build & 24/7 run’ ambitions a reality.

As Product Owner you work with platform architects and platform teams and enthusiastically share their vision with software development teams. You also liaise with software development teams and (software) architects to gather their requirements, so that they do their jobs more effectively. With this knowledge, you set the direction and priorities in a PaaS roadmap, and you oversee the cooperation between your platform teams and the software development teams to achieve your goals. You help teams to validate ideas with experiments. You are creative in organizing events that promote the innovative PaaS platform, e.g. demos, training and knowledge-sharing sessions. The teams that make up the Technical Platform Space provide input for your product backlog. The software development teams are your main stakeholders.

Your role

• Evaluate progress with platform teams in stand-up meetings, facilitate Scrum poker
• Help teams to meet their commitments and encourage actual use of realized solutions
• Further shape the vision and gain stakeholder buy-in

Who you are

You feel at ease in a dynamic, technical, and innovation-driven setting. You have excellent communication skills and a keen ability to empathize. Your leadership skills enable you to bring the best out of different teams and you recognize the importance of proactive stakeholder engagement.

Must haves

• At least a Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of experience in a similar role
• Abundant experience in an Agile/Scrum work environment
• You are enthusiastic about technology, you walk the talk, you share the platform vision, and you know how to sell it
• You can translate a master plan into SMART objectives and get things done
