Beschrijving

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • You will participate in reviewing externally-produced characters with the senior character team, the concept art team and the art director. You will suggest ways to improve the models at every step of their development while bringing them closer to the established art direction.
  • You will communicate agreed-upon feedback with the external team in different ways, including through the production of feedback documents, quick paint-overs and 3d examples.
  • You will put together briefs for new, yet-to-be-produced characters that are clear and concise.
  • You will learn a great deal about the artistic and technical sides of producing characters for a AAA video game, as well as establishing a network of contacts that can help you increase your chances of finding long-term employment.
  • You will constantly push yourself to improve. You have drive and attitude, and see every task as another opportunity to learn.
WHO YOU ARE
  • You have some skill in every aspect of character creation, from start to finish. Specifically:
    • You’re a great sculptor, who can work in a realistic style and has a sharp eye for form and proportion.
    • You understand where to draw the line between what is sculpted and what is added through texturing or shaders.
    • You know how to build game meshes that can capture the nuances of a form, but which are light on resources and performance.
    • You know how to optimize UVs to maximize resolution, and where it makes sense to reuse UV space.
    • You have an appreciation of rigging and articulation, including how topology can influence deformation.
  • You have strong written communication skills, understand what is better explained through words and what is better explained through images or practical examples.
  • You’re open to working in a production pipeline that makes heavy use of freelancers and subcontractors – and can work on or with assets that have been produced by external vendors. You appreciate how and why studios use subcontracting.
  • You’re open to and will act on criticism and feedback. You can take, understand and apply art direction, even if you might not personally agree.
  • You show autonomy, proactivity and can work on minimal guidance if necessary. You’re well organized and know how to manage your time effectively.
  • You have a realistic appraisal of your own strengths and weaknesses, and you’re constantly striving to improve. You keep abreast of all the latest technology, workflow tips and tools.
APPLICATION ADVICE
  • All applications MUST contain a portfolio of work
  • Demonstrable competence using Zbrush and Maya is essential. Competence using Substance Painter, Marvelous Designer and Powerpoint is a plus.
  • We review countless applications. Follow these golden rules when submitting a portfolio:
    • Start with your best and most recent work.
    • Only include material that you’re confident will impress us, even if the work is unfinished.
    • Make sure it’s presented in a format which is easy to access and read.
    • Remember that this is a games development position. Examples of low-resolution topology and UVs are as important as impressive 3d sculpts.
  • Our interviews are direct and challenging. Make sure you prepare and research beforehand. Working in the games industry is not always a creative wonderland and can sometimes be frustrating, tedious or difficult. Research and ensure that your expectations are realistic.
ELIGIBILITY
  • You are 18 years or older;
  • You are currently registered as a student with a related study program to the internship;
  • You are currently residing in the Netherlands;
  • You have a permit to study and follow an internship in the Netherlands;
  • You are a 3rd or 4th year student;
  • You are available for, at minimum, 20 consecutive weeks;
  • You school/university is able to initiate an internship agreement.
