Description

The Product Owner is accountable for maximizing the value the Squad delivers via a product vision, release strategy and Product Backlog. The Product Owner represents all stakeholders, under the accountability of the Tribe Lead/Asset Owner.

The Product Owner is a visionary who envisions the final product and communicates the vision to his/her Squad. The Product Owner is the person who sees the vision through to completion. This includes describing Features and Stories, collaborating and communicating with the Squad(s), accepting or rejecting work results, and steering the product goals by tracking and forecasting its progress. 

The Product Owner manages the Product Backlog items, allocated to him/her and his/her Squad, for change as well as run. The Product Owner ensures that the Statement of Service (SoS) is complied to. The Product Owner points the Squad at the right target, the Scrum Master helps the Squad to get to the target as efficiently as possible. In other words: The Product Owner is the what-person, the Squad are the how-people.

Key tasks

• (Co)Develops and communicates the product vision
• Ensures product delivery with the highest business value
• Ensures that the Squad builds and maintains the right product
• Is accountable that what the Squad is asked to build is aligned with what the stakeholders want
• Motivates the Squad towards the product vision
• Maintains the Product Backlog for change as well as run backlog items
• Refines and prioritizes the Product Backlog continually together with stakeholders and the Squad
• In case of conflicts with/between stakeholders on Timelines, Budget or Functionality, escalates to Tribe Lead/Asset Owner

• Continually answers questions to add detail to requirements
• Schedules Non-Functional Requirements as received by the IT (Area) Lead (IT Custodian) in order to comply to the SoS
• Takes all other stakeholders’ requirements into account when prioritizing, prioritization is based on adding business value
• Manages the Product Backlog on the level of User Stories, derived from Features (may manage also Epics/Features if Tribe Lead/Asset Owner has allocated such tasks to Product Owner)
• Identifies, mitigates, escalates and monitors Delivery- and Result risk  (along with other roles)
