In the ING NL & BE Daily banking tribe, we deliver care free daily banking activities for NL & BE customers, with a focus on customer experience.

We are looking for an experienced engineer to design & develop daily banking customer journeys front-to-back and coach the other engineers in the squad.

• You are a seasoned software developer, with knowledge of & experience in e.g. Java, Scala, Polymer/ Web components, Angular and ELM.
• You are comfortable with developing innovative applications that support complex underlying technologies.
• You like to take a feature end-to-end, from architecture and design to operating it.
• You minimize your efforts needed in operation through automation, resilience & security by design and proper visibility.
• You love to teach; you are able to adjust to the knowledge level of the person you teach and you can give constructive feedback.
• You are able to explain your reasoning to come to a solution in a constructive & collaborative way.
• You are eager to get the bigger picture; you want to know where the functionality of your squad fits in the application landscape of the domain, and within ING.

Work environment:

ING works in multi-disciplinary teams based on Scrum, Agile and DevOps principles. Infra and Security have shifted left, business & IT have joined, making a squad end-to-end responsible for a customer journey or product.

Your squad will consist of DevOps, Security, Infra and business expertise. This is also called the ING adaptation of the ‘Spotify’ model. For more about our way of working please visit:

You will be working in one of the two squads that are responsible for the process of closing an account. The applications servicing this process are mainly developed in Java, some remaining services in TIBCO, and has it’s own frontend developed in Angular. Main goal is to move away from a mainframe platform.

Job description:

As a proficient DevOps engineer you will be designing & developing daily banking customer journeys front-to-back and coach the other engineers in the squad.

Required

• >5 years experience as a software developer
• >3 years Java experience
• Having worked as a lead / senior engineer in a team
• Fluent communication skills in English
• Familiar with agile development (SCRUM, Kanban)
• Have worked in a multidisciplinary team
• Very good communication skills

Preferred

• Have worked in both Dev and Ops roles
• Other languages like Scala & Kotlin
• Frontend technologies like Javascript, Polymer/webcomponents, Angular, ELM
• Experience with CI/CD and related tooling (e.g. github/gitlab, TFS, Jenkins, Artifactory, Ansible)
• Datalake solutions (e.g. Casandra, Hadoop).
• Operations/monitoring solutions (e.g. ELK stack, Open Tracing, alerting solutions)
• Infrastructure (e.g. RHEL, Docker, K8s, Public cloud)
